Finally, there was silence

Finally, there was silence.

The world stopped screaming in pain.  People stopped crying, yelling, begging for mercy.  The suffering of innocents finally ended.  For decades, the noise from all corners of the Earth was incessant.  It drove many to madness, adding to the noise.  No more honking of horns from bulky transport vehicles. No more pollution.  No more poisoning natural resources.  No more chaos and war and stripping the land for natural resources.  It all finally ended.  And all that was left was silence. A beautiful, harmonious silence.

Every last human was dead.  They had caused their own extinction by war and poverty and hatred and pollution.  The Earth could finally rest and heal and wait for the next species to upset its balance.  Which was, unfortunately, inevitable.
